Social and fair

  For  (ecological) cultivation and (certified) wild collected plants different teams had been educated and trained. Partly we work with illiterate persons for whom we have developed special supporting materials. This way we are able to guarantee the high quality of our products. Subsequently many people are getting the possibility of a fair income, who otherwise have no chance on the regular labour market.

   

At the moment there are about 35 seasonal workers busy with the cultivation of different medical plants. 18   depositories have been built for buying of wild collected plants. Collectors bring their wild  gathered  medical plants. They will be randomly checked  concerning quality. Quantity is scaled and noticed for later payment. Also the place of collection and duration of picking are noticed. All plants will be stored cooled till the moment of picking up through cooling-lorries. Right now 350 persons work collecting several  wild plants.

Challenges for the inhabitants of the

Apuseni Mountains

  Main income of the inhabitants had been sustainable usage of wood from the widespread forests in the area. Wood harvest had been regulated in the past years and locals had been locked out. As a result of the new policy a rural exodus from Apuseni started, whole villages became an orphan. Subsequently nobody is taking care of the mountain-meadows, they are captured by forests, biodiversity is changing rapidly and many plants, especially Arnica montana and rare orchids disappear. This is followed by dramatic structural changes in the region and in the landscape.
Bioflora Apuseni campaign for habitat conservation and creates fair payed jobs in the area. Bioflora had financed the renewing of a local school in cooperation with a business partner, giving locals a chance for good education, so that families stay in the mountain area.  

Work and Education for villages in the

Transylvanian Plain

   In the Transylvanian plains many people have left their region for searching work and income in bigger cities. Elder and ill people, as well as underprivileged minorities like Roma families stay behind without support. Members of Roma families very often have no education. In consequence they cannot get a professional training and therefore live below the poverty line.
   This community is getting secure working-places with fair payment for cultivation and collection of medical plants. Additionally Bioflora is supporting projects for reading and writing to enable these.

    In the meanwhile Bioflora is a determinant factor in regional economy in both areas. This is strengthening the mindfulness of the inhabitants due to the huge value of a sound nature connected with sustainable use of biodiversity.
