BIOFLORA APUSENI
The company S.C. Bioflora Apuseni S.R.L. was founded in 2010. Its main goals are to preserve the biological diversity in the oligotrophic/upland meadows as they are poor in nutrients and the economical development of the Apuseni Mountains in western Romania. The sustainable usage of medicinal plants like Arnica montana, Primula veris and many more contributes positively to preserving the landscape and improving the living conditions.
It started out with a Rumanian-German collaboration between the universities of Cluj-Napoca and Freiburg. The amazing Apuseni Mountains and their biodiverse oligotrophic meadows are a result of traditional land utilization that received special focus in research projects. Another focus was put on the protection and preservation of the Arnica Montana.
In the past years the business area/activity/field has extended widely. What started out with the Arnica Montana now has expanded to many more medicinal plants from certified wild harvesting and ecological cultivation. Our main focus is on sustainable agriculture for different medicinal plants and the cooperative partnership between employees and plant hunters.
Today Bioflora is mainly working in two different locations, namely the Apuseni Mountains (wild harvesting) and the lowland area near Sancel (cultivation and wild harvesting). In both locations there are efficient drying plants and storage facilities that meet all requirements of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and cosmetics producers.
